How To Use Long Tail Pro To Find Profitable Keywords For Blog

Your website traffic mainly depends on ONE thing: long tail keywords. If you are not getting enough traffic from Google, that might be mainly because you’re using highly competitive short tail keywords such as “technology”, “marketing”, “SEO” etc.

See, if you want to grow your website search traffic, use low competitive long tail keywords. And incorporate them into your content creation strategy. Only then, you will be bringing search visitors to your blog posts.


    What are Long Tail Keywords?

    In simple terms, the keywords that contain 3 or more words are often known as long tail keywords.

    By using long tail keywords in your content, you are more likely to increase website traffic from search engines. Why? Google loves web pages that include “natural” long tail keywords. By the word natural I mean, not stuffed with the same keywords on your pages repeatedly to boost traffic.

    Keyword stuffing is a BIG no. Even if you use long tail keywords 3 to 4 times on a 2000 word article, it can really help you increase your overall search traffic. Just make sure your content is worth linking to.

    The biggest mistake 99% of the bloggers make is “using short tail keywords while creating content”.

    Have you ever encountered someone saying “I know I’m writing great blog posts but I still don’t know why I don’t see any visitors coming from search engines to my site”? I know I’m. I’ve literally seen so many people saying “my traffic won’t grow no matter how much I write”.

    The truth is – your traffic is not directly related to how many posts you write. It’s all about how many “long tail keywords” you are using on your content.

    • Customizing data & pre-filter: You need to select the local monthly searches below 1000 to get the best results.

    Now once you’re done with that, click on “Generate Keywords & Fetch Data”.

    Step 3: Once you enter your seed keyword to generate keyword ideas, it will give you a list of all the long tail keyword ideas you can use in your content.

    For instance, I’m using the keywords “travel” and “5 star” and it has given me the following list of keyword ideas.


    In the above screenshot, you will see that relevant long tail keywords like “5 start resorts”, “5 start luxury hotels”, “5 star all inclusive resorts” etc.

    You can use all of them while writing your posts to rank higher for your main seed keywords “Travel” and “5 star”. Are you getting me? This is how you should do keyword research to find the ultimate keywords.

    You will also find the Local Searches and Global Searches in the above screenshot. Pick them carefully, I would advise you to pick keywords that have Local Searches below 1000, so you can rank higher even if you have a new blog with less domain authority or link juice.

    Competitor analysis with Long Tail Pro

    To rank higher for any given keyword, you should first analyze your competition. You must first know who is already ranking high for your desired keywords on Google search results.

    If you see that brand companies like Apple, Amazon or industry authority blogs like Problogger, Moz, etc are ranking on the top of the page, you should focus on few other relevant keywords where it’s easier for you to rank higher.

    I don’t mean that you can’t rank in the top 10 search results if an authority blog is already ranking for the keywords you want to target but it takes lots of efforts such as getting more links to your posts, social shares, etc to get into the top.

    If you are someone who is looking for ways to quickly boost your organic traffic without doing much link building, I would highly suggest you find the keywords that are less competitive.

    When you look at the above screenshot, you will find the following few factors. Let’s discuss them briefly so you can understand better about Long Tail Pro keyword research tool and it’s competitor analysis.
    • Title and URL: This gives you the headline and URL of the page. If you want to get better at SEO, carefully observe how the top pages in your niche are crafting their headlines by using keywords smartly. Also, find out how they optimizing their URL’s which is a major metric in search engine rankings.
    • Keyword competition: Keyword Competitiveness (KC) is the number that tells you how competitive a keyword is. If a keyword is more than 50, it’s highly competitive and takes a lot of time, efforts and links to get into top search results. If the KC of a keyword is relatively low (below 20 or 30), you can rank higher without putting many efforts into link building.
    • Page authority: This is basically a score on a 100 point scale (from 0 to 100) developed by Moz team that predicts how well a specific page will rank on search engines. The more page authority you have the easier it is for you to rank higher for any keyword in the search results.
    • Juice links: The total number of external and internal links pointing to a particular page is called “Juice Links”. Basically the more links you have the better it is for you but make sure your incoming links are coming from sites that are relevant and useful. If you an authority site links to your post, that can alone boost your search traffic.
    • Domain authority: The great your DA (Domain Authority) is the more likely you will receive search traffic. Domain authority can be improved by getting high-quality links and increasing your social shares for the domain name.
    • Moz rank: This represents a link popularity score. It tracks rankings for various pages and keywords. The higher MozRank you have the better it is.
    • Page rank: Although Google is not updating the page rank anymore it gives you an idea of how popular a website is. Anything above Page rank 5 is considered as the best site. Page Rank scale is 1 to 10, 10 being the highest.
    • Site age: How old your domain is. Google treats old sites (sites with more age) very well in search results.
